The safety and objectivity of being a child are sometimes shattered by what we learn from adults. As children, we are blind to the things society labels to separate us from one another: race, religion, gender, ethnicity, culture, social class – you name it.
I recall one such experience: I just wanted to continue playing with the little girl next door, but when her dad privately labeled me, it totally changed how she viewed me.
Looking back, I realize how the words of others often influenced my sense of worth and my decision to become as obscure as a wall. Join me as I share my Getting off The Wall journey over the next few weeks.
